I am also considering doing a patreon page. I've been thinking about doing it for a while, but I haven't herd anything from anybody about a yes or no on that.
I decided to give a brief idea of how I work before I make any final decisions for myself.
So I always start out with a basic rough, either pen or pencil...doesn't matter. Whatever I can do with, that is fast and readable.
Next I will adjust for any changes in even more thumbnails and roughs. This was used to show the client different areas of change I could make for them. They had made a few request and I wanted to give them as many options as I possibly could, so they could be satisfied with the final out come. Because this was a long distance client, being verbal and communicating was extremely important. I didn't want to miss anything from the story they wanted to tell, and 100% client satisfaction is one of my main goals. Ultimately my goal was to make there vision a reality, so I draft as many roughs as is necessary for the final product.
After I get the green light on what image they would like, I make a rough outline of what the final outcome will be. This should be a more solid image, as opposed to the quick and rough images before. Elements on the page should come together more and the client needs to see a good representation of what the final version will look like. In this case they chose the thumbnail from the first batch I had made. So I ironed out the details and gave some more depth to the ship and the atmosphere. I also did some figures standing in the middle ground to give a sense of size.
The Final version, all elements are present in the image.
Everything should be finished and finalized. My client was happy I was able to give them what they wanted.
I was happy to give them what they needed. At the end of a typical day for my work, about 60% is spent on preparation. I have to make sure all my supplies and materials are in order. I also have to make sure that thumbnails and roughs are legible for not just myself to read it, but for my audience. Most people get confused when they see my work, not knowing what to call it. Is it impressionism? Is it fine art? No...its just my method of illustration. I use the materials and resources I have to tell a visual story from either my, or my clients point of view.
So that's about it, if you have any questions or comments please let me know. If you would like to purchase my skills, or work you can send me an e-mail or contact me through my website, or from this site. I will go back to my labors now.
I hope this post was helpful and gave you an insight into my method of work. Don't be a stranger, and come by to see me again soon.
